The importance of insulation

When installing underfloor heating, it is highly recommended that the correct insulation is used. Insulation will dramatically cut down warm up times, saving energy and reducing your energy bills.

When using cable mats or loose cable from Flexel, we would recommend our cement coated insulation board. This is made form extruded polystyrene with a polymer cement coating, and will slash the warm up times when using yourt underfloor heating. For example, if you have a timber sub-floor with 10mm cement coated insulation boards in place, you can expect the floor to  reach temperature in around 30 minutes. A concrete sub-floor with similar insulation would heat up in around one hour.

Compare that to an un-insulation concrete sub-floor. This can take over eight hours to reach the desired floor temperature.

When using EcoFilmPro or EcoFIlmSet, it is vital that you use the EcoMax-Lite insulation. As well as reducing warm-up times, this will protect the heating element from any moisture in the sub-floor. Moisure in the sub-floor can potentially cause nuisance tripping of the RCD. The insulation also provides excellent sound insulation, which is vital when a laminate floor covering is put in place.

Whatever type of underfloor heating you are putting in place, it is important that the correct insulation is used. This will save you money and ensure your home is more energy efficient.
