The advantages of radiant heating panels

Replacing your traditional hot water radiators can seem like a daunting task, esoecially if you have always had them in place.

However, radiant heating panels have many advantages over traditional radiators, which can help you save money and enjoy a more comfortable home.

Traditional radiators work by heating the air around the radiator. The hot air rises due to changes in density. This means the ceiling space is heated first, and the temperature of the radiator has to be kept fairly high to produce a comfortable environment.

Radiant heating panels do not waste energy heating the air. Instead, they heat people and objects in the room. That is because they use infrared energy, which is the most efficient transfer of heat energy available. As a result, the heating panel can be set to a lower temperature while retaining the same level of comfort. This saves energy and, ultimately, saves money.

Radiant heating panels also result in a more uniformally heated room. Traditional hot water radiators warm the ceiling space first, which can result in a stuffy environment.

There are also health concerns associated with traditional radiators. The shape of most radiators traps dust and is difficult to clean. This dust is then circulated around the room due to the air movement caused by the way the radiator works. Radiant heating panels do not move allergens around the room, which makes them a great choice for allergy or asthma sufferers.

Radiant heating panels also begin heating almost instantaneously. Imagine being in the Sun on a cold day. When the Sun comes out from behind a cloud, you can feel the warmth straight away. Radiant panels use the same infrared enegy as the Sun.

Finally, the range of Flexel radiant heating panels are available in a huge range of designs and styles. Ceiling mounted heating panels allow you to use 100% of the floor and wall space, which can give you more flexibility when deciding where furniture should go. Wall mounted panels can become a talkig point in the home, thanks to our selection of beautiful, artistic radiant heating panels.

A guide to buying underfloor heating

When considering buying underfloor heating, there are several things you need to consider. Careful planning will help ensure you choose the underfloor heating system that is right for you.

First, decide on whether you want to go for an electric or hot water system. Electric underfloor heating has several advantages over hot water heating. Electric systems are much easier to install, meaning they are suitable for refurbishment projects and installation costs are reduced dramatically. In fact, aside from the final connections (which must be made by a qualified electrician) electric underfloor heating can be installed by a competant DIYer.

Installing water based underfloor heating is a much more complex and disruptive process. Installation costs will be significantly higher, as it must be installed by an expert. It is more suited to new build projects than refurbishments.

Assuming you choose electric underfloor heating, the next decision is what the final floor covering will be. This will define the type of system you use. For example, if you are installing a tile or stone floor in a fairly large room, you should choose a cable mat. If the room is smaller, or an unusual shape you may want to consider loose cable.

If you want to install a laminate or wood floor, then heating film is the best option. For carpet or vinyl, you should choose film combined with an overlay board.

Finally, if you are installing laminate or wood in a wet room, then a foil heating mat is the right choice.

Once you have chosen the correct electric underfloor heating system, the next consideration is insulation.

Generally, the more insulation you install under the system, the most efficient it will be. This will save energy and reduce running costs.

When using cable mats or loose cable, you should install a cement coated insulation board. As well as acting as insulation, this will help stabilise the subfloor. If you are installing film or foil based systems, then a polystyrene foam insulation must be used.

The final choice is the thermostat that will be used to control the system. Whether you choose a manual, digital or a wireless thermostat, it must include a floor sensor. This will give you total control of your underfloor heating system.

Deciding on the correct system and accessories will ensure the installation process is quick and easy, and will ensure your system runs effectively and efficiently.

Courier affected by cyber-attack

You may heard of the recent ransomware attack which has affected a wide range of companies. One of the companies affected is TNT, our courier company.

While they are working hard to get their computer systems back online, many processes have to be done manually. As a result many deliveries have been delayed and tracking is not available.

TNT are confident this will be restored in the next few days, and any underfloor heating orders that have been delayed will be delivered as quickly as possible.
